Having always had a distorted perception of the female body i have been developing sculptures that magnify and exaggerate the aspects that don't conform to the current western ideal, and whilst striving to invite humour are centred around the more serious issues of identity and perceptions of female beauty.
Whilst continuing to work with the figurative aspect, my portrayal of the often unspoken concerns relating to the human condition continues. A recent context deals with the aftermath of modern day conflicts and genocide.
Despite a many varied creative background, no medium has held such fascination as clay which i took up seriously in 1996 in cornwall and which led to me embarking on a ceramics degree in 1999 in bristol. A keen traveller in my younger days meant much time was spent photographing and drawing the local people along the way, in particular china, south east asia and india. The portfolios i developed became a rich source from which to draw on during my final year of study at uwe. Here i started to build large scale figurative sculptures which reflected some of the eccentric dress codes and tactile textures i had encountered whilst abroad.
