Words and VoiceRichard Hillesley contributes the broken words and breathless voice that provide the dark interludes that break into the pleasant rhythms of this record. In another life he is a freelance editor and writer who specialises in writing about digital rights and free software, and was once the editor of LinuxUser & Developer, which he escaped to from an office in London, where he worked as a programmer. He grew up in East Africa, South Tyneside, and North Wales. During his misspent youth he was, among other things, a casual docker, a railway guard, sailing crew, dishwasher, and co-worker in an alternative bookshop. He now lives in the West of England. His two pieces on this record, Mixed Economy Blues and Still Life with Barstool, were written during the darkest days of the eighties, and reflect the mood of the time, the pigeon stone and bistro droppings, the hopeless twang of Cupid's arrow, the slow clap of thunder over the factories and the dole queues, and a drunk on his angry voyage into the night...
